Juicy hot dogs smothered in hearty chili, melted cheese, and your favorite toppings—this classic dish is a game-day favorite and family dinner win!
Ingredients:
For the Chili Dogs: 6 hot dog buns
6 beef or pork hot dogs
2 cups homemade or store-bought chili (see quick chili recipe below)
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1 small onion (finely chopped, optional)
Pickled jalapeños (optional)
Mustard and ketchup (optional)
Quick Chili Recipe (if not using store-bought): 1 pound (450g) ground beef
1 small onion (chopped)
2 cloves garlic (minced)
1 can (15 ounces) tomato sauce
1 can (15 ounces) kidney beans (drained and rinsed)
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 teaspoon ground cumin
½ teaspoon paprika
Salt and pepper to taste
How to Make It:
Prepare the Chili (if making from scratch):
In a skillet, cook ground beef, onion, and garlic over medium heat until the beef is browned. Drain excess fat. Stir in tomato sauce, kidney beans, chili powder, cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 15-20 minutes.
Cook the Hot Dogs:
Grill, boil, or pan-fry the hot dogs until heated through.
Toast the Buns:
Lightly toast the hot dog buns in the oven, on the grill, or in a skillet for extra crunch.
Assemble the Chili Dogs:
Place a hot dog in each bun. Top with a generous spoonful of chili, shredded cheddar cheese, and chopped onions or jalapeños if desired. Add mustard or ketchup if you like.
Serve & Enjoy:
Serve immediately with extra napkins—it’s about to get messy!
